25 Trugo Gompa Statues Of Yamantaka And Vajrapani  [25 of 47]

Trugo Gompa has statues of Yamantaka in yab yum with his consort and Vajrapani. Yamantaka (Tib. Dorje Jigje), the ferocious emanation of Manjushri (Bodhisattva of wisdom), comes from Yama "the Lord of Death" and antaka "one who ends."; so Yamantaka means the "one who ends death." Yamantaka has nine heads - the first head a bull; next to his right horn he has three heads, and three heads next to the left horn. Between the horns is a red head and above is the orange head of Manjushri. Yamantaka’s two main arms hold a skull cup and a chopper. Royal blue Vajrapani (Tib. Chana Dorje), representing power and strength, is one of the three main aspects of enlightenment along with compassion (Avalokiteshvara) and wisdom (Manjushri). In his right hand he holds a vajra to cut through the darkness of delusion.
